Video: Analyst Mike Osterman on Web Security, Social Media Policies and the "Death of Email"
Messaging analyst Mike Osterman of Osterman Research was visiting Silicon Valley yesterday and dropped by Proofpoint headquarters to catch up on the latest Proofpoint happenings and to share a few of his insights about what's going on in the email, messaging and broader IT world.
He was kind enough to answer a couple of quick questions about the types of inquiries he's fielding from enterprises today. Mike's doing a lot of work around web security, has been thinking about the implications of social media for enterprise IT security professionals and also has some interesting research findings about how email use is changing... Turns out email is far from dead. Check out his comments in the brief video.
Mike has done some really great research for Proofpoint recently, including helping us compile some stats about enterprise IT professionals' attitudes toward cloud computing (see my previous blog post on this subject). He also did some analysis and cost modeling to determine the cost savings and other benefits that organizations can achieve by moving email security and email archiving functions to a SaaS model.
You can download both of those whitepapers on SaaS cost savings from the following URL:
