Times of London: Bosses Crack Down on Social Networks as Secrets Leak
Statistics from our sixth annual report on outbound email, social media and other data exposure risks were featured on The Times business page today. Writer Mike Harvey brings in a little bit of UK color by referencing Proofpoint's 2008 survey, which included responses from large UK companies.
What we've seen over the years is that, though regulations may be slightly different in different countries, the data exposure risks represented by outbound messages (whether those are sent via email, social networks, IM, etc.) are quite high.
It's great to see a leading international paper like The Times feature this information so prominently. You can read the whole article here:
Times Online: Bosses Crack Down on Social Networks Amid Leaks
Says the article:
"British companies are even more rigorous. A survey last year showed that more than half regularly audited e-mail to ensure compliance with company rules. Financial and legal organisations have a duty to monitor e-mail traffic to comply with regulations and to cover them in the event of legal action, but the practice is spreading to all sectors."
