Research Results: Outbound Email and Data Loss Prevention, 2009

Regular webcast attendees know that I am sometimes handle the live Q&A for Proofpoint's webinars, but I rarely present... But in Wednesday's web seminar we'll be unveiling the results of our sixth-annual enterprise survey on outbound email and data loss prevention. Each year, I design that survey and write the summary report, so who better to guide you through it, eh?

Every year, we uncover surprising statistics about how large companies manage the risks associated with outbound email, blog postings, media sharing sites, social networking sites, mobile Internet-connected devices and other electronic communications streams… and this year is no different. This year's survey includes some new data on data breaches via social media, a look at security concerns related to SaaS, and a look whether the global economic recession is hurting the ability of enterprise IT professionals to protect their organizations' confidential, private and proprietary data.

I'll also be joined by our research partner, Michael Osterman of Osterman Research, who supervised the data collection and made some great new contributions to the questions we asked in the 2009 survey.

I'd love to share a preview of some of our findings with you, but I'm told that I can't leak any of my stats in advance (and that would be kind of ironic, wouldn't it?). So I'll leave you with this redacted/obfuscated view of just one of the findings from this year's survey.
