Anarchy in the UK (Office)
Proofpoint's UK office has some rather saucy research findings out today, reporting on the behavior (often bad, apparently) of British office workers.
This one's a little more racy than some of Proofpoint's other research on email security, policy and cultural issues. Let's start with the purely email-related stuff, shall we? In its survey of 400 UK office workers, Proofpoint found that:
- More than half (54%) of UK office workers said they had mistakenly hit "reply all" on a company-wide email when their response was anything but "safe for work."
- 25% said they have inadvertently emailed a colleague with "saucy comments intended for a lover."
- 8% say they have responded to a spam email.
- On the web side of things: Fully one third (33%) of UK office workers admit to having watched pornography on their office computer... but only 7% report that they've been caught doing so.
Could other bad office behaviors be causing these mishaps? The survey also found that:
- 56% of UK office workers admit to having returned to work drunk after lunchtime.
- 59% admitted to being absent from work due to a hangover.
- 31% have canceled or failed to show up for a meeting because they were "down the pub."
- 62% admit to having had a romantic fling with a colleague.
- 28% admit to having fallen asleep at their desks.
Lots of pickup on this today in the UK popular media (such as the Daily Mail and The Telegraph) as well as tech trades such as SC Magazine and ComputerWeekly.
We wonder... Are US workers any less naughty?
